Mortal Kombat Unboxing

Hello everyone, and welcome to another unboxing! Today I’m bring you a Mortal Kombat unboxing! Not much to rate here in terms of content besides the bonus retro Scorpion costume that came with pre-ordering the game from Gamestop. The price was $69.99 CAN on release day, and at Gamestop, however I do believe prices elsewhere are $59.99 as of right now. $10 extra for a retro costume? Depending on if you’re a fan or not, it isn’t worth the extra $10 , but for the fans of the series, it’s a nice collectors item to have. I am a fan of Mortal Kombat, although I haven’t owned any since the version on SNES (number one I believe). I loved the movie as well, saw it first day with my cousins and uncle, and I remember being scared when the skull appeared on the screen after Shang Tsung appeared.

Scorpion was always in my top favourites, my number one being Raiden. So having that retro costume of Scorpion is a nice thing to have.

First off let me say that this game is extremely fun. It can be quite challenging at times, (Shao Kahn) but it is really fun. By far the most entertaining fighting game I’ve played in an extremely long time. The story is simply gripping, and even if you know nothing about Mortal Kombat, you’ll understand what is going on from the beginning. Once complete with the story, there is plenty more to do with the game, such as Challenge Tower (Which I’m still on, Challenge 80 I believe) as well as the classic Arcade versus mode, as well as the classic Ladder, fighting through people to reach Shao Khan. In combination with that, there is also a 2-player Ladder, where it is a tag battle, and you fight together through the ranks to reach the top. Each fight you face up to Shang Tsung is a 2 v.s. 2 tag battle, so it keeps it interesting. There is also a 3 player and 4 player mode, which only consists of a versus mode, so I believe that they as well will be tag battles.

If you do get tired of that mode, there is also online which is quite fun. There is the normal arcade style versus fighting, as well as online tag battles, plus you can do 2-player online tag battles (which is a nice feature). Alongside the arcade style fighting, there is also a special mode called King of the Hill, where fighters try and defeat the present king (winner) If a person loses, the victor stays and another challengers fights the winner. If the present king loses, he is off the “hill”, and at the back of the line to for another chance to fight the “king”. If a person remains as king, they stay at the top until defeated. Also, it is extremely interactive. You can view the fight as a spectator using persona’s that you choose, for PSN you choose from the cast of Mortal Kombat, and if you’re XBox Live you have your persona. From there, you can choose to “boo”, “applaud” and even rate the performance of the winner, based on whatever judgement you may give them, whether they fought well or not.

There is indeed  a lot to this game which I haven’t mentioned, however expect a review of it. I really do love this game and feel that I need to write more about, so be on the look out. If you’re thinking about purchasing this game, I recommend it.

Pokemon Black Unboxing

Please turn up your volume a little for this one, as my phone didn’t record audio to well and I didn’t have my camera 😦

Hope you guys enjoyed that! A little out of what you guys are used to from me, but after reading up a bit on Pokemon Black and being a long time fan of the video game series, I thought hey, why not give Pokemon Black a try. So far I’m loving it, the graphics are much improved from the days of Red, Blue, Yellow and Gold, and definitely a step up from Diamond (the last of the series which I played) So far I’ve logged about 6 hours or so into the game, I can see a lot of time being invested into it. At first I was a bit skeptical, as I payed $39.99 for it at Gamestop, when everywhere else it was $34.99, but as I don’t have much access to these other places (no car) I just had to suck it up and pay the extra $5 + tax, so it came to about $45. Yes, $45 for a Pokemon game, what was I thinking. Well so far I’m enjoying it, it’s a lot of fun for me, and bringing back those old memories I had playing Gold when I was younger. (Gold was my favourite and most played of the series). I’m hoping this will be my first game where I’m actually able to get all 150 Pokemon, and hopefully complete the entire Pokedex. If anyone wants to help feel free to message 😛 What sucks is that I have an exam on Friday, and I just bought this on Monday, so I can’t really enjoy it as much as I’d like to, however once Friday is over, damn right I’ll be playing Pokemon all weekend long!

Overall I like it so far. It’s different from all the others in the series, and seems to be a bit more challenging, only due to the fact that I have no idea what is going on and everything is completely new to me. A whole new 150 Pokemon, a whole new region, a whole new story line, and I’m just psyched to play it.

If anyone has either version yet, let me know which one you guys have!

Couple of updates!

Hey guys! It’s been a while hasn’t it? How have you all been? I’ve missed posting here, but I’m happy to see viewers are still coming to my blog. Time for a little update of what’s been happening, and what is going to happen.

First off, the First Strike map pack for Call of Duty. One word: Ascension. Greatest map out of the set to be honest. The other maps Discovery, Stadium, Berlin Wall, and Kowloon, are by far the campiest (making up words yeah I know) maps I’ve played so far. Stadium isn’t as bad, but if you have really great campers, then you’re pretty screwed. I Won’t be telling you these locations because the last thing this game needs is more campers 😛 However Ascension is a great zombie map. Really big, fun to run around, and has this amazing Easter Egg to it. I’ve yet to complete it, but it is quite amazing, and if completed correctly you receive a death machine for everyone that lasts about 2 minutes. A lot of people believe (myself included) that there is something more to this Easter Egg, however figuring it out is quite a daunting task. The map pack was around $16 ($14.99 + tax) however as much as I was upset about the price (after having to wait a month) the zombie map alone is definitely was worth it.

Now you’re probably wondering what will my next unboxing be, after all, that’s what I’m mostly about. More than likely, it’s going to be Mortal Kombat 9. However I’m not preordering it from Gamestop because they jacked their price up to $69.99 when everywhere else is $59.99, and their reason behind it is because of their Retro Ninja costume for Scorpion, plus his original fatality as their special preorder bonus. Honestly I’m not a huge fan of Mortal Kombat, so spending $10 more just for a single suit and fatality is not worth it. I will be getting the normal edition but from else where. Not sure if I’ll preorder from Amazon, or just go to the stores the day of or after to pick it up. With the 3D in a 2D plane, like Street Fighter, as well as the patented fatalities, plus all the blood and gore, and x-ray hits, it’s guaranteed that this is definitely going to be a fun game to play. Plus the addition of Kratos for the PS3 version only is a major bonus. Would like to see a fight between him and Scorpion :D. The demo for Mortal Kombat was released yesterday for PS+ users, and will be out on the 15th for normal PS3 users, and later on in the month for Xbox 360 users. I’m definitely going to check this demo out, and hopefully it will solidify my decision to buy it.

Also, I was finally able to preorder inFAMOUS 2! Now that that’s out of the way I don’t have to check their website every day to see if they have it up or not. So rest assured there will be an unboxing for that when it comes. I’m pretty psyched for this, as inFAMOUS is one of my favourite games. Now with the addition of new powers, new karma, and a whole create your own mission mode, I’m pretty excited for this.

As for what’s coming on the blog, not sure as yet. Keep a look out, I might be doing something in regards to breaking down the map pack for Call of Duty, maybe.

LittleBigPlanet 2 Collectors Edition Unboxing + Review

Hello everyone! LBP2 arrived! It took a while to get the video on YouTube, but that’s because the file was rather large, and the quality is much better as you can see! Remember to rate, comment, and subscribe! Let’s get a review of the collectors edition in quickly shall we?

So as you can see from the video, the collectors edition came with the game, regularly priced at $59.99, bookends or game-ends, a 7 inch sackboy plushy, as well as a code two download 11 costumes, as well as 5 exclusive themed PSN avatar. (Which I forgot to show in the video)

Is this collectors edition worth the $79.99? In my honest opinion, yes it is. The sackboy is a genuine sackboy, who is built to last, cuddly and cute. I imagine an object of that nature would run for about $10 – 20, as it is a collectible item. Treated well, I imagine he could last an extremely long time.

Are the bookends/game-ends worth it? You be the judge. LittleBigPlanet 2 is an exclusive game to PS3, and definitely was one of the most anticipated games of the year. The bookends/game-ends are a nice way to show off your collection, and would be a great addition to any collection, as it highlights your passion for gaming. Also, I doubt that you will be able to find bookends like these anywhere, perhaps on the internet, as part of the collectors edition which someone would be selling for reasons unknown. Personally I’d price these at around $10 – 20 CDN. The bookends/game-ends make a nice addition to the collectors edition, which is well worth it.

The costumes that came with the game are exclusive content to the collectors edition, or you may be able to purchase them on PSN, I haven’t looked. While some may not find these a necessary addition to the collectors edition, it is worth having. Only a certain few would have these costumes, and they look really cool in game. (Clu helmet and hands are awesome!) Media Molecule did a partnership with Disney this time around, so you have exclusive costumes like Clu, from Tron, the Toy Story alien, and the Great Gonzo from the Muppets (his suit is awesome). You also get

  • Ratchet” Sackboy Costume
  • PlayStation’s “Clank” Sackboy Costume
  • Even More Animals’ “Crocodile” Sackboy Costume
  • Even More Animals’ “Vulture” Sackboy Costume
  • Even More Animals’ “Cobra” Sackboy Costume
  • Even More Animals’ “Mandrill” Sackboy Costume
  • And exclusive to the LittleBigPlanet 2’s Collectors Edition: PlayStation’s “Jak” Sackboy Costume
  • PlayStation’s “Daxter” Sackboy Costume

(taken from GameStop’s site)

Basically you have exclusive content to work with when you purchase the collector’s edition.

For me, the plushy sackboy, the bookends and the bonus costumes make the collector’s edition worth the extra $20. It was money well spent in my opinion. At first I was regretting purchasing it, because it was so expensive, and I am also getting the collectors edition for Dead Space 2 hopefully next week, which is the same price. However when it came today all that regret disappeared, and I love it.

There is nothing lackluster in this collectors edition package, and altogether it is worth the $79.99.

Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood Unboxing

As promised, the Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood Unboxing.

It’s a nifty little collectors set, which includes the game, a DVD containing all the behind the scenes works of Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, an art book, a map of Rome, and the Harlequin jack in the box. Overall it is a good collectors edition, but nothing extremely fancy. Original price of the set according to GameStop is $99.99 CAN (link). In my honest opinion that is a bit to much for this collectors edition. There is nothing extremely outstanding that really catches your eye that makes this a must have collectors set. That is unless of course you are a die hard fan of the series, but even still, $99.99 is a bit to much. I was fortunate enough to catch this offer on the Black Friday sale that GameStop was having, and I had intentions of getting the game, so why not just get the Collectors for the same price as the game? For $59.99 it was a good deal, at most I’d be willing to pay up to $69.99 – $79.99 for something of this caliber. Reasons why you may ask? Keep reading.

The box which the collectors set comes in, is actually quite nice. On the front it has the Assassin’s Creed symbol with its wording, and on the sides it has the characters from the game. It’s a great collectors box, looks good part of any collection.

The art book is quite interesting, as it features drawings and artwork of the various characters and scenes with great detail which are in the game. It’s hardcover, features a lot of work, and it makes a great addition to the set.

The DVD showcases all the behind the scenes action, and all the work that went into the making of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. It also provides a sneak peek at the upcoming Assassin’s Creed comic book that will be coming out. I myself have not watched it as yet, but one could imagine that it would have a lot of interesting facts for those hardcore fans. I would personally rather have the comic book than the DVD.  It’s a good addition, but not really needed.

The map of Rome now is one of the let downs of this collectors set. It’s printed on normal paper, with a very light laminate/plastic cover. On one side it has the map of Rome, and on the back it has a line up of all the main characters within the game, along with the signatures of the producers. Had the map been printed on a better material to reproduce the authenticity of an old map, it would have rated better in my books, and perhaps justify the price a little more. Perhaps something along the lines of a old parchment, or even a cloth of sorts. Also, instead of having the main characters of the game printed on the back along with the signatures, what should have been made was a poster, with the characters as well as the signatures. That would be more of a collectors item if everything was individual instead of on the back of something else. For me this brought down the value of the collectors set itself.

The Harlequin jack-in-the-box is what makes this collectors set what it is. It consists of a little key made out of a hard plastic (metal would have been better and added to the professionalism) and the jack-in-the-box Harlequin. The casing for the jack-in-the-box is a hard plastic with a beautiful design on it, featuring the Assassin’s Creed symbol on all four sides around the box, with the words Assassin’s Creed printed on top. When you turn the key, a bobble head like figure of the Harlequin (or Doctor if ordered from anywhere other than GameStop) pops out ready to strike.

Harlequin ready to strike

The detail and artwork is quite amazing on the figure, and itself is a wonderful addition to the collectors set. Overall, I must say this is my favourite part of the set.

All in all, it is a good collectors set. Nothing fancy, but it is good. I wouldn’t have bought it had it not have gone on sale for that limited time though.

Overall, I rate this collectors edition 7.5/10. There were things that lacked in this set that were somewhat disappointing, and others that made up somewhat for it. I.e. the map & lack of a poster v.s. the harlequin jack-in-the-box.

Just a quick update

I have finished playing Call of Duty: Black Ops, and I am currently working on a review for it. expect it up in maybe 3 – 4 days. Thanks for being patient! By the way, just a little something to look forward to for the future, I pre-ordered the Collector’s Edition for Dead Space 2 so expect an unboxing for that when it comes, hopefully on the 25th of January! It’s currently back-ordered with GameStop, but hopefully that won’t affect the delivery.
